Solid wood – ideal for your interior spaces!

About a year ago, I was talking to one of my customers who wanted their interior space to be created. They wanted the design to represent their personalities and serve the functional purpose in their 5-bedroom apartment.

They also insisted that the interior space should be in line with contemporary styles.

We brainstormed a few times and arrived at a design that gave them a preview of what they can accept. The design was agreeable to them.

We suggested usage of solid wood for all their needs ranging from Burma Teak to Rosewood to Mahogany. They fell in love with it, once we explained the benefits of using solid wood for their interiors.

Some of the benefits that caught their imagination include:

The beauty of solid wood furniture is unmistakable

It makes it inviting and the grains on the wood makes it an ideal choice for modern interiors. The furniture that we used featured intricate hand carved designs and subtlety – this cannot be created on mass manufactured furniture.

The rough textures and natural colors added to the rusticity of the space, making it all the more natural and inviting.

Durability of multiple lifetimes

These can be handed down from generation to generation. The quality and durability of solid wood grows as they age. Old pieces can be recycled or sanded down to give it a new life, and used again by generations of owners.

Environment friendly

It lasts generations and you don’t have to worry about replacing them often and creating unnecessary waste.

Wood that is responsibly sourced is the only renewable building material around – trees that are harvested for their wood can be replenished by new growth. The carbon foot print of producing wood products is considerably lower compared to other materials.

Wood also has the capacity to store carbon, which is crucial in the fight against climate change.

And then, you are most likely to source wood locally and use artisans who are locally trained. This allows you to support the local economy and the local timber industry.

Variety and versatility

The vast range of colors and tones of wood means that plenty of variety is available for style and look. Add to this, the subtle and noticeable differences in terms of texture and grains bring in a fair amount of variety.

Solid wood sets in as a part of any design scheme – be it rustic or modern. This can also look wonderful in the outdoor settings and not just the interiors.

Ease of maintenance

Solid wood equals easy maintenance. Most solid woods don’t get affected by termites and they last generations without any wear and tear.

Waxing, oiling and polishing only needs to be carried out occasionally and it is an undemanding process.

When you look at modifying or enhancing your interiors, you should give solid wood a chance. I assure you that you would be happy for the experience.
